A TERRIBLE THING IS HAPPENING

reference books detailing myths and legends stolen from libraries...
wikipedia pages wiped clean from the face of the internet...
ancient stained glass windows smashed and destroyed...
historical research centers burnt to the ground...

Someone out there is trying very, very hard to erase all of the possible sources of power and belief of the ancient gods and goddesses. And it hurts. Whilst the powers of the minders are unharmed by the attacks, the gods and goddesses will be certainly feeling the toll: it's now painfully clear that even the simplest of miracles are now becoming almost impossible to perform.

deities, you had better have gifted your minders with some decent blessings! Because now you're going to rely on them more than ever. Someone is out to get you.

[ There is life in all things, just as there is death — in man, in worlds, in gods alike — and being the font which gives and takes away means that Sulis is aware that they are not alone, though her senses are dulled by pain.

They are to meet the demon here, the one named Kali, the reigning lord of Kali Yuga who looks to bring about the destruction of creation. In Hindi his name comes from a root that means to suffer or confuse and so Sulis is glad that the river is with her, if only to know he can dispel some of the afflictions the demon could visit upon them.

Pausing she stops, in the shadow of a rocky outcrop and raises a hand to shield her eyes as she scans one particular cluster of tall misshapen stones. He is not there, he is elsewhere, she knows, but does not give indication of this in her gesture.

Sulis says softly, mindful that her voice does not carry: ] The ridge, to the southeast.

[cleanses]

[ Acheron doesn't turn yet, instead simply stopping by Sulis' side. When he speaks, it's just as softly. ]

Would you try to bargain with him? [ he asks, glancing behind them. ] It may be worth the effort, before we challenge him to fight.

[sprung]

I'd rather not fight at all, if it can be avoided, [ she tells him and then lets her hand drop back down to her side again as she starts again forward. ] We've all suffered enough already and I don't have a vengeful heart.

[ For a stretch the only sound is their shoes upon the dry earth. In the darkness Kali stirs. This is not the charge he was meant to meet. ]

[cleanses]

[ Acheron simply nods. He has never been vengeful, despite what his name may imply. (There's no use in being as such, or so he's come to believe.) When he judges that they're within earshot, he raises one hand to Sulis' elbow, the gesture both a reassurance and the need for one as he straightens up, voice the loudest it's been in ages. ]

Hail, [ he calls, eyes fixed upon the outcrop of rocks that she had pointed out earlier. ]
