wikipedia pages wiped clean from the face of the internet...
ancient stained glass windows smashed and destroyed...
historical research centers burnt to the ground...

Someone out there is trying very, very hard to erase all of the possible sources of power and belief of the ancient gods and goddesses. And it hurts. Whilst the powers of the minders are unharmed by the attacks, the gods and goddesses will be certainly feeling the toll: it's now painfully clear that even the simplest of miracles are now becoming almost impossible to perform.

deities, you had better have gifted your minders with some decent blessings! Because now you're going to rely on them more than ever. Someone is out to get you.

Payton's attention drifts back to the search for his book until the next question comes. He stops, something alert in his eyes, staring right back at her again.]

Of course I am. Who else would I be?

[tumbleweeds]

[ Jaye tucks some hair behind an ear and immediately looks softer, curious. ]

I thought you were someone trying to go after your things, of course. I was interesting in hearing about you -- about your mission.

[ And then, if it has anything to do with what's going on, she'd be interested in knocking his head off with a bear paw. ]

[He stops, narrowing his eyes. A long, awkward pause follows until he just moves to grab a paper and throw it her way.]

[ The paper is grabbed and she raises an eyebrow. Instead of reading the pamphlet, however, she tucks it into a pocket. ]

It's Payton, right? That's what the people outside were saying.

[ She frowns. How crazy is this guy, really? ]

Oh. Yes, of course! [Payton looks like he's gained a new wave of energy, gesturing enthusiastically.] It is I. Your new god. Are you here to make an offering?

[tumbleweeds]

[ "Your new god." Coyote is her deity, and she has taken his lessons well. She smiles, almost sickly-sweet. ]

I would hardly be faithful if I didn't make offerings to my god.

[ And then her lips pull back to reveal changing teeth. ]
