A TERRIBLE THING IS HAPPENING

reference books detailing myths and legends stolen from libraries...
wikipedia pages wiped clean from the face of the internet...
ancient stained glass windows smashed and destroyed...
historical research centers burnt to the ground...

Someone out there is trying very, very hard to erase all of the possible sources of power and belief of the ancient gods and goddesses. And it hurts. Whilst the powers of the minders are unharmed by the attacks, the gods and goddesses will be certainly feeling the toll: it's now painfully clear that even the simplest of miracles are now becoming almost impossible to perform.

deities, you had better have gifted your minders with some decent blessings! Because now you're going to rely on them more than ever. Someone is out to get you.

[It isn't that he so much lacks confidence as just knows that he is still very much a junior in this world of deities and their minders. He knows he has so much to learn from the Morrígan, from Alphonse, too, that he usually spends his time observing. He helps when and where he's told and, despite his usually tender, quiet and caring smiles, he isn't afraid to stand up and be counted in the hour of need.

That hour seems to be now, his eyes fixed on his goddess momentarily before he moves away to tend to some of the crows still in the flock that made it here. He doesn't need to have spent so much time around them to know they're weak. The way he carries himself, muscles tight across his shoulders, makes it clear how he feels about this whole situation, about the strange situation they all find themselves in. Foreboding without any idea as to who is behind all of this.]
crowmother: (☠ mother of crows)

[ This place is thick with the spirits of the dead and so, in this place, Callum is much stronger than he is elsewhere. And that is what the Morrígan needs right now — she needs her minders to be brave and stalwart, she needs her crows to survive. But even without Sight, it's plain enough to everyone involved: more crows will die, more than perhaps can be spared, and for a time the Morrígan will be blind, removed from both the past and the future and caged in the suffocating singularity of the present.

When Callum moves from her towards the meager flock of crows, she turns and watches him silently for a long moment. Of the birds, the Ten are sacred: Eoin, Ainmire, Cailean, Ciar, Cayden, Uaine, Innes, Hagen, Murine and Becuma. Each of the Ten signifies a birdsign of prophesy and each are irreplaceable. Compared to the legions of crows the Morrígan mothers, the Ten cannot die. There is no greater responsibility for Callum and already, the Morrígan knows how well he will fair, though she says nothing.

What do you fear most, little soldier? [ she asks at length. ]

[Callum is careful as he moves, eyes scanning the flock before he looks back to the Morrígan in order to answer her question. He's a man, mortal, and prone to the same fears that allows all men to avoid all the things that could kill them. His survival instinct is as strong as the next person's.

To ask what he fears the most though... that takes very little thought. He knows what feels the most heavy in his heart, the twist of his stomach at the thought and the way his eyes stray for a few seconds before he works back up to looking at her again.]

Disappointment. Others being disappointed in my best. [It keeps him always striving to be better than he was before.]
