FORCED HONESTY v2
no-one's denying that all these gods and godesses aren't formidable motherfuckers. I mean, let's face it, they're all thousands of years old have turned more hot virgins in to trees than your average mortal has had hot dinners. and even their minders can be pretty badass. but right here, right now, everyone present is bound by the highest authority to TELL NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH to whoever that asks it of them...

[His lips curve into a smile the moment he knows she's making her way to him, small nod in greeting because he's learned that it's what she prefers: no fuss.]

Ruining hasn't been my duty for a long, long time. How are you, Kathleen? [It's a silly question; if he wanted to know he could simply look into her mind, but that's something he would rather not resort to.]

[ Heh. Angel humor. The sort of thing Kathleen would sneer at normally, make some kind of snide comment and move on. But meeting Raphael, taking on Crane — they've changed her in ways she's yet to fully understand. When she shrugs it's only with one shoulder. ]

Tired. [ She's been giving more than she should lately. Not too much, but close. ] Been a long week and it's not even over yet. No rest for the wicked. [ She rubs the back of her neck. ] And even less for the good guys.

[Unlike his apprentice minder, Crane, Kathleen requires more attention, more of his keen eye trained on how much she's giving away. Raphael worries for her, his whole purpose healing, and the way she burns herself out and gives more than she should away troubles him. Her purpose isn't to give her life for someone else's.]

Will you let me heal you?

[ Her look gives him the answer that she doesn't speak right away. Kathleen has a hard enough time brokering what little self-worth that she has out of the things that she does with the powers given to her by Raphael. To have him heal her now would be just taking more out of the world than she was giving in. And she couldn't allow that, could she?

Still, she tries to keep her tone light.
] Wouldn't that be missing the point?

Not for me. [Kathleen is his minder but that makes her no less in need of his skills than any other human on the planet. Raphael can hardly think of anyone who qualifies so well for his attentions.]

Missing the point would be to let you shoulder too much alone. You aren't my minder solely to give your life for others.

I'm not alone.

[ Those words should give her strength, but they don't — taking just as much as they give, barely breaking even, like her, like life. Kathleen hasn't done enough to deserve Raphael's blessing or Crane's worry. She has to earn it, with tears and self-sacrifice. Some days she comes close, but never close enough.

One day, it'll kill her. But not today.
]

I have you and Crane. You help. [ Deflection from the real point. ] You wouldn't let me out of the house, otherwise.

You're free to come and go as you wish, but never to sacrifice your life. It's precious. [As are all of his Father's children. He smiles gently, peacefully, and gives her the opportunity to soak that information up properly before he continues. The gift he bestows on his master minder is for healing small injuries and low-level illness, nothing more.]

Now, let me see you. [So he can heal her like he wants to. Like he needs to. It is, afterall, his purpose.]
