A TERRIBLE THING IS HAPPENING

reference books detailing myths and legends stolen from libraries...
wikipedia pages wiped clean from the face of the internet...
ancient stained glass windows smashed and destroyed...
historical research centers burnt to the ground...

Someone out there is trying very, very hard to erase all of the possible sources of power and belief of the ancient gods and goddesses. And it hurts. Whilst the powers of the minders are unharmed by the attacks, the gods and goddesses will be certainly feeling the toll: it's now painfully clear that even the simplest of miracles are now becoming almost impossible to perform.

deities, you had better have gifted your minders with some decent blessings! Because now you're going to rely on them more than ever. Someone is out to get you.

[She's still perfectly dressed up and wearing her stilettos, even when she comes back from the kitchen with a glass of water and a pill. Renee sits next to Hermes at the edge of the sofa.]

I have no idea if this will help, but you're still not allowed to complain.

[Concern is evidently present -- she's never seen him like this and didn't even think she ever would -- but showing any semblance of vulnerability in his time of need isn't an option.]

[He looks up at Renee from under his arm, a small smile curled up on his lips. There is still blood around his nose from where he broke it, but it's healed by now, taking far longer than it normally would have.]

Look at you, ordering me around like you're Hera herself.

[He takes the glass and the pill though, groaning as he tries to sit up slowly, not quite wanting to risk another dizzy spell.]

But you're so good to me that okay maybe I can get it slide.

[She arches an eyebrow at the mention of Hera. Not the favorite deity to be in the presence of, even if Renee has proved herself efficient more than once.

Her hand rests against his back, not quite for support as much as it's to show she's there. Just in case his dizziness gets the best of him again.]

I'm always good to you.

[Not the favorite deity of most, to be fair, Hermes included. He much prefers the company of mortals like Renee than mother monster herself. What a horrid creature indeed.

He leans against her hand, resting his head back against his shoulder once he's taken the pill and handed the glass back. He gives her a rather loving smile, reactions far slower than normal for him, though average for most. He takes her hand and squeezes it, a sign of his appreciation.] You really are. The rest of them are pissing their pants with jealousy over how amazing you are.

[Her lips stretch into a smile, warmer than most are allowed to see.]

They better. [Hermes is watched for a moment longer. She then tips her chin and moves to stand up.] Now get some rest. I've got some calls to make.

[The moment Renee moves to stand up, Hermes grabs her arm and pulls her back down onto the couch. He drapes a leg over her, just to make it clear that she's not going anywhere.] Nope, not a chance sister.

[She opens her mouth to protest, stopped by his additional measures.] What about Cameron?

What about her? She's out doing crazy errands.

What did you do when you were new? [He wraps an arm around her then, dropping his head back down against the couch and giving her a skeptical little look.]
